a 3 minute read – By Dr. Christopher Lepisto
Some years ago, I sat chatting with a patient of mine who used to suffer greatly from spring allergies. I say used to because he had made one change that shifted his allergies the most. All of the itching, watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose and fatigue became a mild noise in the background. This man had been trying a large number of natural therapies over the years. N-Acetyl-Cysteine (which helped somewhat), a change in his diet, drinking larger amounts of water, local raw honey; none of these helped significantly.
What did he do? Sinus rinses, and he did them multiple times daily.
I was astounded, but as I considered further, it all made sense. It was the total load of stress that was affecting him. In his case, it was primarily the physical problem of dust, pollen, mold, dander, smoke, etc which was overwhelming his body’s systems. Following a healing principle known as “removing obstacles to cure,” these treatments gave him tremendous relief. For others, the mental stress of a difficult job or an emotionally challenging relationship needed to shift before relief came.
How do you know if your stress levels are a contributor to your allergic response? There are very specific tests to determine the status of your adrenals, such as an adrenal health panel or a cortisol awakening response (CAR). Even baseline blood work can reveal hidden insights when assessed properly and I will tailor any testing exactly for you.
I can help identify is stress is the problem. These tests, among others, help me assess the degree to which your body is reacting to stresses, identify the cause of your allergy suffering, and create a customized treatment plan to set your system back on a healthy course.
Because allergy symptoms are your body’s response to a perceived threat, my patients who get an early start on correcting the problem see much better results than those who wait until allergy symptoms become unbearable. As with most health issues, once your system is taxed and exhausted, the road to recovery becomes much longer.
So don’t wait! The sooner you seek treatment, the sooner you’ll feel better.
